Welcome to the spirit of There’s a Little Art in All of Us to honor Arthur Isabelle (husband of Lorraine, father of J. Guy, Claude, Bernie, Pierrette and Tim) of Barre, Vermont. He was a wonderful man and self-taught in many areas including stone trades, carpentry, music and raising a family. He was born and raised on a Canadian farm, one of 21 siblings, with a 4th grade education whose first and only language began as French. Motivated by a desire to create a better lifestyle for his own young family, Arthur moved from Canada to the United States. He overcame many obstacles, in addition to learning a new language, to become successful and productive in his new country. Sometimes it’s not what happens to you that counts, but how you handle it. Circumstance does not make a person it reveals them.

To carry on Arthur’s spirit, an annual award will be given to a Barre Technical Center (BTC) graduating student or students (whose reach extends to the five Washington County sending High Schools) who reflect a similar spirit of overcoming life’s obstacles. The award recognizes a young person or people who may have ambitions and/or talents but not the resources or opportunity to take it to the next level.

Students write an essay describing their dream, interest and/or talent and how it fits in with their current life circumstance; the obstacles or challenges they have faced pursuing their dream, how they will use the award and why they reflect a “Little Art” in them. “There’s a Little Art in All of Us” is an annual award to honor and empower a youth or youths by supporting and encouraging their talent and interest in the arts, trades, music or culinary. Applications are accepted from graduating seniors in the following Barre Technical Center programs: Business & Finance Academy; Construction Technology; Info Tech Academy; Health Sciences; Culinary Arts/Hospitality; and Human Services.
